We were expecting *some* snow, but we weren't exactly prepared for this amount. We had to build a fire to warm back up and I think Melissa was about ready to shoot me.

On the way up in the dark Friday night, we came across a moose. We just stopped and waited for him to get bored of glowering at us and leave. Then I slid off the road trying to avoid some Jeep ruts just beyond a fairly deep snowbank.

Saturday we dug out and hiked up to the lake. We saw some wildlife on the way up including deer, bunnies and a timber wolf. I was a little surprised to run into two other parties up there, although we were the only ones staying the night.

This was the first time I've actually zipped my mummy bag up and tightened the breathing hole around my face.

The way back down was a little easier because we left early enough in the morning that the snow was still frozen hard. I didn't posthole once on the way down.

One of the couples we met up there told us later that a bear was spotted in the Lions Head Campground that weekend.
