votes

I know that we are all sad that we've come to the end of the Era of Peter, but it's time to hold some elections again. Votes are opening up tomorrow and will run for two days.

This is what I know about the candidates:

(this is not to be taken as endorsement for anyone!)

  • Server Admin:
    • David Brown:

He's a Computer Science major and a card carrying Sourcemage developer working on a sophisticated new Linux kernel compile+install frontend. He's the person who's been in charge of herding the rest of us into relatively organized Up All Night LAN parties and got Linux running on the Mac in the office. He can be an arrogant prick at times; for those of you who don't know, that's a requirement for a System Administrator.

    • Jesse Yen:

I apologize, but I don't know Jesse personally. All that I really know about him is that he actually responded to the email last semester asking for Server Admin volunteers. That's pretty uncommon around here. Jesse, please respond here and/or the forums with a little about yourself. Everybody else, don't assume that this means that he's less qualified.

  • Secretary:

    • Erin Mettler:

Erin is a Computer Science major and unlike many of us, she's actually gone out and secured herself internships and is preparing for her future. Even though she's as busy or busier than anyone else here, she's always prepared for class and is on top of every homework assignment. I've been impressed by her performance in all the classes I've had with her. She also dated Peter last semester, so maybe she'll bring some of the old Peter-Fu back into our meetings.

    • Brian Johnson:

Although Brian is a business student, he's quite geeky as well and knows Linux in and out. He's the xBrianx that showed up in IRC this semester. I believe he's actually returning to school for an MBA, but I could be mistaken about that. I haven't had him in any classes, but he's helping Eric and I on our business plan for the competition here, which means that if things go right, we may end up going into business with him after school.

Please feel free to post corrections to any of this. I don't want to mislead people :)

Haven: If you intended to run, you need to accept your nomination.

More about Me! ;)

First I'd like to say thanks to binford2k he almost has everything. ;)

Also I work for the econ dept here at wsu.
If any of you have taken Wayne Joerdings econ10[12] classes. I work on the online websites and market simulators that go on in that class.

Most of them aren't really interesting to look at but they were never intended to be, the websites were designed to be teaching tools. Most of the cool stuff happens below the surface.

The market simulators and (isegs) Waynes version of WebCT are written in php running on apache 1.3 servers with mysql databases. Very interesting and fun work, I love the job and would like to see more of that kind of work.

Currently I have apache 2.0 servers running on both my towers, one's for testing and the other is for actual work, and both have php 5 and mysql databases. I also run apache 2.1 on my laptop, but that's mainly for bragging rights, Gentoo doesn't have apache 2.1 Ha!

Lastly, some times people mistake being very 'straight forward and to the point' with being 'an arrogant prick' I'll try my best to be as kind and understanding .... Naa!

Thanks for all your votes ;)

- David

Who is Jesse?

Jesse Yen:
I am a computer science major and I have a lot of experience in setting up and maintaining different types of Linux servers. I went to a small private high school where me and a friend setup a Linux firewall running debian and a SMB domain server where windows clients could login and download profiles. I have setup and/or maintain other relocated web servers since some of which are jads.com and mozilla.com. All of the computers I own and or have been in my possession long enough have some flavor of Linux on it. I have written different scripts/utilities in c/c++, bash, php, and perl. In all I am your average Linux user.
Oh yeah I will be here this summer and I am probably will be at WSU for two more years.

I would like to accept the nomination

I would enjoy maintaining and working on the server. I feel that I am experienced enough for this responsibility.

Secretary

I nominate xBrianX for the position of secretary.

I also promise to come back and post his name when I find out what it is :)

Re: Secretary

I'm willing to contribute what time I have, however with all my other obligations, I cannot gaurantee an hour per week estimate. I am interested though...
